In June 2025, we planned a two-week trip to Peru, as our stay in South America was coming to an end. We started in Cuzco to get used
to the altitude before continuing to Machu Picchu. We were not very lucky there, with the whole site being covered by low-hanging
clouds! Luckily, the opened up by lunchtime for us to enjoy the view of this world wonder. Afterwards, we continued to Arequipa for
a visit to the Colca canyon before heading to the coastal town of Nazca (the famous Nazca lines have been on my bucket list for a
long time). In the end, we took some days in Lima before returning home.
In December 2024, we headed to the southern-most region of the world: Patagonia! It has been on my bucket list for a long time and we
finally saw an opportunty to go. We started our trip in Punta Arenas and had several day trips in the surroundings to go see the local
fauna, being penguins. After a week, we moved back north to have a couple of days in Santiago, including a visit to the nearby vineyards
of Concha Y Toro . Here, there were clear summer vibes (which were not as clear in Punta Arenas).
In January 2024, we were finally able to go to Colombia. We started off in Cartagena and continued to Barranquila, where
we took a domestic flight to Medellin. After a weekend in this city (an recovering from the heat of the coastal areas),
we returned to Barranquila and headed to Santa Martha, where we visited the nearby protected nature area. While we went
in the so-called winter period, dealing with the heat turned out to be more challenging than expected!
In November 2023, we initially planned a two-week trip to Colombia. As I was currently applying for a temporary residence visa,
I was not allowed to leave Ecuador and was forced to reschedule our trip. Instead, we did a little trip through the Ecuadorean
Andes. We started in Alausi (for the train-ride, which appeared to be non-functional), and continued towards BaƱos and Latacunga
(as basis for visiting Lake Quilotoa).
Sweden & Norway
September 2022
In September 2022, we supplemented our European voyage of July with two extra countries: Sweden and Norway. We started with a couple
of days in Stockholm (Sweden) before taking the bus to Karlstad (Sweden) and subsequently to Oslo (Norway).
In July 2022, we went on a trip through various countries in Eastern Europe. We started in Lithuania (Kaunas and Vilnius) and
continued by bus to Riga (Latvia) and Tallinn (Estonia). From there, we made a one-day trip to Helsinki (Finland) by using the
ferry service. We continued our trip to Vienna (Austria) and finally arrived in Bratislava (Slovakia) before returning home.
